Swiss Digital FUSE BOX

If something good is worth waiting for, is something truly phenomenal worth waiting longer for?

If so, that may justify the time I took to get this “review” to you.

Over the decades, I don’t recall any audio device that improved every aspect of sound at least a bit without some accompanying weakness; not one. The S.D.F.B. , however, might just be that device. It’s remarkable enough that it can do this, but that it does so at a fraction of the price of less capable and inherently sacrificial devices, makes it exceptional and, for me, mandatory. For context: Three of the finest fuses I’ve used (for my two monobloc’s and a DAC/Pre/Streamer) cost over $8500.00 in total, while 3 S.D.F.B.’s cost less than $1500…..The fuses are just as good as they ever were and produce sonic improvements commensurate with their expense…well… they used to. But the S.D.F.B.’s are better in every way, are non-sacrificial, and are 1/6 the price.

The thing is, the S.D.F.B’s., at least in my system, improve the entire sonic landscape, but do so in a way quite wonderful. Resolution is markedly improved, but with less, not more, edge, glare, and things that irritate or annoy over the long haul. I hear no increase in “warmth” per se, but, somehow, the music is more comfortable, more “right”, more human and real. Macro and micro dynamics, decays, ambient information, etc. ad infinitum are all just plain better defined and more there. And it was obvious right away. Having cooked them on a Cable Cooker for 5 days prior to audition (normal for power cords) is most surely the reason. They were giving their all after just a few hours of actual music. Surprises can be pleasant, but waiting for hundreds of hours to make a valid judgment is not only torture, it’s not feasible for us non-reviewers who can’t hold on to loaner items for months. Yes, 5 days is 120 hours. It’s a long time too, but it’s more than enough to do the job and I KNOW that break-in is complete. Most important: Conclusions are valid and aren’t likely to change.

Not having been at any recording sessions ever, I have no idea what I’d have heard. The S.D.F.B’s, though, enable sound that in most all cases sounds more true-to-life than I heard before I installed them. Telling more of the truth may not be kind to poorly recorded music, but for the part of my library I’ve listened to recently, the sound is both better and truer to my live music experience.

As a reality check, and after several weeks of getting used to the new, more-better sound of my music with the S.D.F.B.’s in place, I put my special fuses back in. For me, the first few notes after reverting to a former device are the ones that tell the tale. In this case, the S.D.F.B.’s are perhaps even better than my initial impressions led me to believe, and The magic was back! They are staying just where they are.

Of all the ways I’ve spent money on audio over many decades, there have been a few breakthrough developments I’ve owned or heard which not only resulted in improved sound, but which changed how things are done in their aftermath. The S.D.F.B. may be one of those.

Until manufacturers incorporate this technology into their designs and eliminate the fuse altogether, I can’t think of a more effective (and cost-effective) way to get better music without the hassle and expense of having to upgrade one’s equipment. You owe it to yourself to try at least one of these; you’ll be thankful you did.

Hello. Long time lurker but infrequent poster. I have had the fuse box now for about a month with my decware Tori jr v2. I did not want to post prematurely before I had a chance to listen for a while. I listen mainly to vinyl and classic rock. I chose a few albums that I’m very familiar with ( rush signals , Fleetwood Mac rumors , and dire straits debut album ) and played them over and over with and without the fuse box. The rest of my gear is - vpi prime signature with ortofon cadenza bronze cart, Zesto andros deluxe 2 phono preamp, don sachs linestage and spatial Audio x5 speakers.
Before get into my sluggos comparison I will state that the music flowing out of my speakers with the fuse box was more vibrant, deeper and punchier bass, better highs without nasty harshness and much more inner detail in my music. The best way I can explain my last point is akin to having your cartridge set up incorrectly and then have it correctly set up. It’s a noticeable improvement across the board and a device that I will not do without. I’m strongly considering adding it to my preamp as well but I am very deliberate and methodical in adding components to my system

As far as the sluggos i initially preferred the brass - warmer sound without detail loss. The copper added more high end sparkle. Over time with tubes in my system I preferred the copper as a nice balance between warm tube sound and high end sparkle.

Mark generously sent me the gold plated copper and brass sluggos. Long story short , the gold plated ones are superior. Everything I said earlier is enhanced.

Mark is great to communicate with. He’s prompt in responding via email or phone calls.

In todays ever increasing prices of audio equipment this is a small cash outlay for an appreciable improvement. For me and my system it is an integral piece that I will not live without.
